MDViewer is designed around a simple principle: the Markdown files you open belong to you and should remain on your device. This policy explains what stays in your browser, what our hosting provider may process, and how Google Analytics provides basic measurement and uses optional cookies.
1. Scope and operator
This policy applies to the MDViewer website, its browser-based reader and editor, and its public documentation. MDViewer is maintained by the website operator.
2. Local files and browser storage
When you open a Markdown file or folder, processing happens in your browser. MDViewer does not upload the file name, path, Markdown content, local images, drafts, or search terms to our servers.
To provide features you request, the browser may store:
- reading and appearance settings in
localStorage; - recent items, reading positions, session state, file handles, and drafts in IndexedDB;
- your analytics-cookie choice in
localStorageundermdv:analytics-consent.
This information remains on your device unless you explicitly export or save a file. You can remove it through MDViewer settings or your browser site-data controls. Browser permissions control whether MDViewer can read from or write to a local file.
3. Google Analytics and optional analytics cookies
MDViewer uses Google Analytics on the production website to measure visits to public pages. Analytics cookies are off by default: before you choose, or after you reject them, analytics_storage remains denied. Google Analytics may still send basic cookieless measurement pings, but it cannot read or write analytics cookies such as _ga and _ga_*.
If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics can also use identifiers in those cookies to distinguish visitors and sessions. Information sent may include the public page URL, a privacy-safe page title, referrer, event time, browser and device category, and approximate geographic region.
Google Analytics never receives your local file names, file paths, Markdown content, drafts, local images, or search terms from MDViewer. Google Signals and advertising-personalization signals are disabled in our configuration.
You can reject analytics cookies on your first visit or change your decision at any time through Cookie settings. Withdrawing consent sets analytics storage to denied and removes MDViewer-accessible _ga* cookies; basic cookieless measurement continues. See the Google Privacy Policy
for information about how Google processes data.
4. Hosting and security data
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most hosting and security providers, Cloudflare may process technical request data such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamps, and security signals to deliver the site, prevent abuse, and maintain its network. This processing is separate from Google Analytics. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy .
5. Purposes and legal basis
Essential local storage is used to provide features you actively request, such as remembering settings and drafts. Basic measurement is used to understand public-page traffic, diagnose broad usage trends, and improve the product; analytics cookies are used only with your consent. We do not sell personal information and do not use Analytics data for personalized advertising.
6. Sharing and international processing
We do not receive or share the contents of your local files. Technical website data may be processed by Cloudflare for hosting and security, and basic public-page measurement data may be processed by Google. Analytics cookies are used only after consent. These providers may process data in countries outside your own under their published contractual and legal safeguards.
7. Retention
Local settings and drafts remain in your browser until you clear them. Your consent choice remains until you change it or clear site data. Analytics data is retained according to the retention settings of the MDViewer Google Analytics property and Google policies. Hosting and security data is retained according to Cloudflare policies and operational requirements.
8. Your choices and rights
You can:
- reject or allow analytics cookies;
- reopen Cookie settings to change your choice;
- clear MDViewer data and cookies through your browser;
- revoke local file permissions through browser settings;
- use browser privacy controls or content blockers.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal data. For privacy questions or to exercise these rights, contact the website operator.
9. Children
MDViewer is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed specifically to children. We do not knowingly request names, account details, or the contents of local documents.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when MDViewer features, providers, or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes will be reflected on this page before or when they take effect.
